To say that Jesus is the reason says that we would not have Christmas time without Him. This tells us that we need to continue the spirit of thanksgiving we celebrated last week and extend that through Christmas. We should be thankful for what Jesus has done, and throughout all of our festivities, we can be thankful for the time off of work or school, for the time with family and friends, for the gifts—all because Jesus came to live with us.
If Jesus is the reason, he should also be the attitude. We should conduct all of our festivities with a Christ-like attitude. Is it honoring to Christ to gather with families only to bicker and fight with each other? Does it honor God if we run ourselves ragged trying to find jus the right gifts and cook just the right meal? Perhaps part of that attitude should be one of taking time to enjoy the simple things so we don’t get distracted by all the stuff we associate with Christmas.
