That saying has been used a lot as an encouragement. It essentially means that when we’re in our hardest moments, something good is just around the corner. But, if you’re looking for everything to suddenly start going your way, you’re often going to be sorely disappointed!
However, there is some truth in that statement—assuming we’re looking for the right thing. Psalm 34:18 says “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” When things seem at their worst, we can know that God is close to us, and when God is close, His comfort is also close. God also knows exactly what He’s doing. All of us will have difficulty and tragedy in our lives somewhere along the way, but that is never the ultimate destination of those who trust in Christ.
Think of those 2000 years ago who believed Jesus was the Messiah...then watched Him die at the hands of Roman soldiers. Can you imagine a darker moment? The one you thought was going to save you was just killed—how can that be? Where do we go from here?
What they didn’t know is that the dawn was coming. Less than three days later, Jesus would rise from the dead.
Whatever your darkness is right now, hold on. Whatever your struggle is, don’t give up. The Lord is close, and He is working His plan. Also, don’t shy away from the encouragement of God’s people during this time. Many times, God uses them to bring His comfort. Won’t you consider joining with our community this Friday evening as we remember the darkness of the death of our Lord and Sunday morning as we celebrate the dawn of His resurrection?
