We all know the weather has some extreme ups and downs, but that can happen with our spiritual and emotional lives as well. It would be nice if we could be at a steady, happy, strong place in our relationship with God and with the things going on in our lives, but this can often be just as unstable as the weather in Texas.
What do we do about it? First, we recognize that it is normal. Everyone goes through ups and downs, and we have to accept and realize this. Second, we have to admit when we’re having a spiritual dry spell. Maybe we don’t feel like worshiping or going to church. Maybe reading the Bible isn’t interesting. Maybe our prayers feel like they’re hitting the ceiling. Third, once we admit this, bring it to God. Ask him to guide you through it. Keep being faithful to the things God has told you to do, and in his time, he will lead you through it. Sing your favorite hymn or worship song. Find a way to help or serve another. Talk to a good Christian friend. And, of course, my door is open and my phone is on if you ever need someone to talk to.
