There’s nothing wrong with having strong opinions and standing up for what you believe is best on these issues, in fact, I would say it’s good and healthy for our country when people make informed, principled stands on important issues.
As Christians, however, we must consider a couple things when these issues come up. First and foremost, we must be able to make a distinction on whether the issue is primarily an earthly issue or primarily a spiritual issue. The spiritual issues are things that are directly and clearly addressed in God’s Word. With these issues, we are working alongside God and His purposes when we engage them. Other issues, however, are not clearly addressed in scripture, and we cannot make the mistake of treating them with the same level of importance, or assuming God thinks of these the same way we do.
Secondly, we must handle our disagreements with kindness and love. Yelling and name calling rarely helps anything. Let us show Christ-like love as we discuss the issues of the day, as reflecting Christ is much more important than making sure people know which side of the political aisle we sit on.
