This is a good example for us as Christians. Spreading the seeds of the gospel can be hard work, and it can be exhausting. When we tell the good news to others, we have no control over how they will respond, and we might even be doubtful that it will yield any fruit in their lives. But, that should never stop us from being faithful to try.
In Matthew 13, Jesus tells the parable of the sower. In it, a farmer sows seeds, and they all land in different types of soil. Some seeds never have the chance to grow. Some grow a little, but not very effectively. But there are still some that take deep root and God causes them to grow. It’s the same with the gospel. When we are faithful to spread the good news all around, it will often fall on deaf ears or hard hearts, but there will be times when it takes root in the heart of those who hear it. Like our local cotton farmers who don’t know how the crop will turn out, we can never know how the gospel will be received, but we are called to faithfully sow the seed, and leave the results to God.
