For some of us, that might be a scary thought! My mother told me a story of her father (my grandfather) while he was teaching at a university in Michigan. He would like to go up to students in the hallway and whisper in their ear “I saw what you did”, then walk off with no further explanation, leaving the student to wonder exactly what dark secret their professor had learned about them, when in reality, he probably knew nothing of any significance.
But also, the statement “You never know who’s watching” can be a good thing. In my senior year of high school, everyone was passing around their yearbooks to sign. One guy in my English class, who had always struck me as a bit of a rebellious/wild type of person, had written in my yearbook. He told me he had noticed me living out my faith and wished he could have faith like I did. I had never verbally witnessed to him, and really hadn’t had a whole lot of interaction with him. I heard through a mutual friend a few years later that he had given his life to the Lord and became a missionary.
I don’t tell that story to brag, but simply to illustrate that every day matters. People see the way you handle life, and it can make a difference. Most of the time, you’ll probably never know what impact you may have had—good or bad—on another person, and that’s probably for the best, because that could easily cause us to be proud or embarrassed, depending on what stories people told about us!
We’re talking about witnessing on Sunday nights, and I hope you’ll join us! While we learn about sharing the gospel, always remember that what we say must reflect our lives, or people get a mixed message—you never know who’s watching!
