Thinking of the cold stretches we have on occasions makes me think of people in our past that might not have had easy access to heat, and if they did, it was probably a wood-burning stove which required great quantities of firewood that had to be gathered and chopped. Around here, I’m not even sure where you’d find enough trees to make that happen! I’m thankful for the provisions God has made for us in this day and age to have reliable ways to stay warm.
I also think of people today that don’t reliably have heat or warm clothes. Certainly there are people all around the world for whom this is a concern, but even in our community this is the case. Do you have coats or warm clothes that aren’t being used that could be donated to the Clothes Closet in Roby or to the Country Store in Rotan? Someone in our area would probably be very grateful to have them.
It challenges me to not think so much about the minor inconveniences in my own life, but rather to be thankful for the blessings and remember those who have much bigger struggles than I do. What a difference this can make in our daily lives to have this perspective!
