At a basketball game, neither extreme (nor anywhere in between) is right or wrong—assuming the enthusiastic ones are still Christ-like in their words! The different personalities of the individuals in the stands dictate a lot of how they will respond and enjoy the experience of being at a game, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But I couldn’t help but think about how engaged some people are at sporting events and wonder if those same people are as engaged and enthusiastic about the things of God? Do we get more excited about our leisure activities—be they sporting events or anything else—than we do about what God is doing in our lives? How about those who don’t engage in the sporting event at all? Is that the way we respond to the things of God as well, or are we able to get involved and excited about what God is doing?
In short, let’s all be conscious about celebrating what God is doing and put our focus first on making sure others know who has saved our souls and can save theirs. People should know that about us more confidently than they know which sports team we root for!
