It’s easy to get overwhelmed in times like this. We feel overwhelmed with all the things we need to do. We feel overwhelmed with the heaviness of our heart. It becomes hard to know what the right response is.
Each situation like this is unique, but let me encourage you with a few thoughts. The most important thing you can do in overwhelming times is to spend time worshiping God. More than ever, we need to remind ourselves of Who is in charge. Spending time in worship calms our souls and focuses us upon our Savior, which can save us from a meltdown!
Another important thing is to pray for the situations that are causing us stress. Specifically spell them out to God. Yes, He knows already, but the process of telling Him can be a big part of making it through. I encourage you to speak or write out your prayers as a way of really drawing your focus to God. Try it and see if it doesn’t help.
One more important thing is to be clear about what you can actually do to help and what is beyond your control. We all like to help when there’s something we can do, but trying to take responsibility on ourselves for things that only God can handle is a sure way to burn ourselves out without helping anyone.
