Shortly afterwards, while talking with Kim about this conversation, we both acknowledged that there are some things other denominations do that can make us uncomfortable, but the more important thing to consider is the heart behind what they are doing. Is someone showing love for God? Is someone showing love for others? Are they pointing people to Jesus and His saving power? If the answer to all of these questions are yes, and they are not teaching things that are blatantly against scripture, then we should rejoice in what is happening!
God is so much bigger than our understanding. He doesn’t fit within the box of any denomination. He’s working through our Methodist, Church of Christ, and Catholic brothers and sisters, too, along with many other denominations—as long as people are seeking and following Christ.
It’s discouraging to me when I see Christians arguing with each other about secondary things. Are we really going to get angry about our methods of baptism, Lord’s Supper, or our understanding of spiritual gifts and let these things separate us? Let us rejoice in what God is doing and ask Him to help us see His hand at work all around us. I pray that God helps me to continue to be excited about what He’s doing, even when I don’t fully understand it or it’s something that doesn’t match with my Baptist view of the world.
