It’s no secret that COVID-19 has changed our world. It was hard for me to accept at first, when the word “pandemic” was first being thrown around. I wanted to keep doing things the way I always had, because I was comfortable with it, and I didn’t know how else to do things. Eventually, I came around to accept the reality of the situation, and spent a lot of time staying at home, only venturing out when absolutely necessary. We expected this to be over in a month or two, and then we would go on about our business.
But as you know, we’re in month seven of this ordeal, and despite lots of talk, it’s no clearer now than it was in March when it will all be over. I think it’s time we recognize that things may never be quite the same. Yes, they’ll probably have a vaccine available at some point, but people will be forever changed from this experience. There will linger for many years a nervousness about being around people and getting sick.
One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is the fact that people need Jesus and the love of their neighbor. Let’s be vigilant to look for ways to serve each other and be the church in the midst of the pandemic, and not wait for things to go back to the way they were, because that may never fully happen. If you’re nervous about being around people, you can still pray. You can still write a card. You can still make a phone call. And if you are willing to get out and around people, you can help out with our community choir or the upcoming FCA luncheon. How will YOU serve in this new world we live in?
Proud to be partnering with you in Christ,
