In a similar way, as we enter the month where we think about love, someone might look at today’s culture and say, “What a lot of things you do use ‘love’ for!” We might speak of our favorite meal by saying “I love a good burger”. Or, we might say we love to watch a good sporting event. Television and movies would have us believe that loving someone means instantly going to bed with them. No wonder the concept of love is so misunderstood in our society!
Let us remember that 1 John 4:10 tells us what love is: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” Love is a sacrificial concern for others that cares about their well-being more than our own. Let us strive to mirror that kind of love as we interact with others!
