The Bible is full of examples of love, but our society tries to tell us what love is about as well. It’s a fairy tale wedding. It’s finding someone who will shower us with gifts. It’s finding everything we ever wanted in another person.
I imagine most of us reading this today would scoff at the representations that TV and movies make of love and agree that the biblical examples are much better. But which one reflects our inner selves better? Do we say we are patient and kind while we get irritated that they are not doing what we want them to? Do we say we would lay down our lives, yet we are reluctant to get up out of our recliner?
It’s important that we’re aware of what is influencing our ideas of love. I firmly believe that the worst influences in today’s entertainment is not the blatantly objectionable content, but the sneaky little things that distort our ideas of love and what’s important in life. Make sure God’s truth is a bigger influencer in your life than what the world says.
