The more we get used to things being a certain way, the more likely we are to start thinking that is the “right” or “normal” way, or that everyone should see it the way we do. The reality, however, is that many people have had very different backgrounds than we have, so their perception of what is right or normal is quite different than ours, and this affects the way they look at the world.
Do you ever stop to think about the way the world looks to people who are different than you? I was thinking about that this week as I helped with the Abilene Food Bank distribution. I’ve been blessed to always have enough to eat, so it’s hard for me to imagine what life must be like for those who have to regularly wonder if there will be enough to feed their family. Regardless of the reasoning for the situation they find themselves in, it’s a reality of their life, and it affects the way they look at everything.
We need to consider the people around us. How is their life different than ours? How do they see us? How can we share the gospel with them? Understanding the people around us and trying to see things from their perspective is the first step in being able to relate the gospel to them.
