But what was the message of the angels when they appeared to the shepherds? “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Jesus had come to bring peace. No, that doesn’t mean that all fighting would stop, because the peace would come to “those on whom his favor rests.” And where does God’s favor rest? It’s upon those who believe in and trust Him. The promise of Jesus coming provided the promise of a settled, peaceful heart. No longer did they have to struggle with which version of the law to follow, they would only need to follow Jesus.
Are you peaceful this Christmas season? Or has the busyness of life got you caught up in it’s clutches? The busyness may not be completely avoidable, but it becomes much more manageable when we first take the time to remember Jesus and the confidence we can have in Him. When we remember what He came to do, it can settle our hearts, regardless of what is going on around us. I challenge you to make time this
week to reflect upon Jesus’ coming and see if it doesn’t
leave you with more peace.
