I could go on about the recommended ways to stay safe and the best ways to look at the situation, but by this time, I think we’ve all settled on how we’re going to respond to the pandemic. Whatever your viewpoint is at the current time, let me encourage you with a different perspective: Revelation 21:4 tells us that “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Even if this virus rages for years to come, we can have hope that on the day we meet Christ, he will dissolve away all of the troubles of this life. The things that seemed so important to us in this life will instantly fade into oblivion. Whether someone was sick or well, conservative or liberal, black or white, rich or poor...those won’t matter any more. If you have trusted Christ as your savior, you’ll be perfected in his presence and will know no more pain or struggle.
So what does this mean for us now? Colossians 3:2 tells us to “set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” While we still have to deal with the realities and challenges of this world, let us not place our primary focus upon them. For every joy and sadness, every success and every failure, every celebration and every reason to mourn...let us consider them all in light of our promise of eternal life with Christ. See if that doesn’t change your day just a bit!
