This week, however, as we were preparing to get food boxes ready to deliver for the Fisher County Food Pantry, I was asked to pray for the group. In the prayer, I asked God to give us opportunities to do more than deliver food, but also to minister to the people we encounter.
I eagerly hoped God would answer that prayer, but after the first two places I delivered had nobody home, I began to doubt. The third stop I made, however, brought the answer to prayer. The individual I was delivering to began to open up about concerns and struggles in her life. It was clear that she needed someone to acknowledge her and really listen. After listening for some time, I was able to pray with her and even set up another time next week when I can meet with her again. It took a good bit of time during a busy day to just sit and listen, but it was encouraging not only to her, but to me as well.
Maybe you’re like me and you often forget to pray for these types of opportunities. Maybe you’re nervous what God will do when He answers it! You don’t have to have all the answers—a willing spirit is the most important thing God is looking for.
Would you join me in being more intentional to pray for opportunities to share the love of Christ—both in our individual lives and through the programs and activities of our church?
