But what about the rest of us who are a few years (or maybe a few decades) beyond our teenage years? Choices are still important for us, and in fact, they can often be harder. Many of us have built up life patterns, and we need to always be ready to evaluate our lives against what God’s word says to make sure we are making good choices. If we’ve built up bad habits, we need to make better choices. The longer we’ve been entrenched in patterns of thinking, the harder it is to evaluate them objectively and change if needed.
I believe, however, that God does want to “teach old dogs new tricks”. A humble heart can be changed by God. A willing spirit can be used in new ways by God. What God does not want is a proud individual who thinks they’ve got it all figured out and everyone else needs to become like them.
So, just like the teenagers, our lives are full of choices. Each and every day, we must be ready to ask God “What do you want to teach me today?” and be ready to humbly listen and apply what he teaches us. It can make a difference in not only your life, but the lives of those around you.
