I had a situation like that the other day. I met someone with a somewhat unusual first name which just happened to be the same first name of someone I went on a single date with before Kim and I were together. Being reminded of this woman sent my mind down a trail of memories of the different people I had dated over the years. It’s a weird feeling to think of that stage of my life again...and I don’t miss it.
When I’m reminded of periods of my past life, it often makes me once again thankful for the journey God has brought me through. I’m glad I’ve grown significantly as a person since then. I’m glad that God brought Kim into my life. I’m glad that we have Grace and a happy little family.
It’s easy to get caught up in our current lives and fail to consider how much God has blessed us. I challenge you, next time you’re reminded of a past period of your life, to take a few moments to let yourself dwell there. Remember who you were. Remember what life was like. Then, be thankful for the ways God has grown you and brought you through the challenges of your past. See if you don’t have a renewed sense of God’s goodness as you see how He has led you and changed you.
