The struggle in Ukraine, for instance, is a very real war, where people are dying. Tornadoes around our state this past week have cost people their homes and livelihoods. Just because I haven’t seen these things or experienced them in person, it can seem almost like they’re not real, but they are. I could go on about problems in our world, but I’d run out of room very quickly! The point is that most of us know we should be praying for people in need, but if you’re like me at all, it’s easy to let things be “out of sight, out of mind”.
So what do we do? We pray first that God would touch our heart to feel the need to pray for others. There’s a song by Brandon Heath that sings like a prayer we would do well to repeat:
Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missin'
Give Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see
