There’s no other time in life when people grow and change as much as they do in their first year, but we are all continuing to grow and change. We don’t ever stay exactly the same. Our bodies change as we age, we have new experiences, new memories form and old ones fade. We gain new skills and gradually lose old ones. But it’s not just in these physical and mental ways that we change—we change spiritually, too.
Think back to when you first came to have faith in Christ. For many of you, that might have been fairly recently, and for others, it might be so long ago that it’s tough to remember! Either way, your spiritual life has changed since then—but in what ways? Have you grown closer to God and become more in tune with His ways, or have you drifted farther away? This world has an effect upon all of us that pulls us away unless we are very intentional to draw near to God regularly and seek Him in our lives. If we do, we will continue to change and grow as He molds us. If we don’t, we grow hard and cold as we drift away from God, and most of the time, we don’t even realize it’s happening.
Be intentional about growing in Christ, seeking His face in study and worship, and looking for ways to share his love with others, so our change can be for the better—not for the worse!
