To be completely honest, the farther from my teen years I get, the less I like big youth rallies, but I suppose that makes sense, because I’m more and more removed from being their target audience! Whatever I may or may not prefer about these types of events, however, is beside the point. The point is that hundreds of teenagers came together and were challenged to put their faith and hope in God.
If we’re not careful, it’s easy for those of us who are a few years (or decades) older to look down on the young faith of teenagers, but there is almost certainly something we can learn from them: their sense of excitement, awe, and wonder as they discover who God is and what He’s called us to. Something about being an adult can drain us of this excitement for Christ. Maybe it’s become too routine for us. Maybe we’ve become a bit cynical from bad experiences. Maybe we’ve become complacent in our lives. I can’t speak for you, but for me, I think it’s helpful to be reminded by our teenagers from time to time about how exciting God’s love and truth can be. When is the last time you’ve seen faith through the eyes of a young person? There’s a reason we’re called to have the faith of a child!
