While pawn shops and pawn brokers often have a bad reputation for gouging their customers (that’s a discussion for another time!), one thing they do well is that they admit when they don’t know enough about an item to discuss potentially buying or selling it. On rare occasions, the pawn broker gets in a rush and he’ll end up buying something that turns out to be a fake or not worth nearly as much as he thought, but most of the time, he readily admits he doesn’t know enough about the antique diving helmet or 300 year-old book that just walked into his shop, so he calls in the expert to make sure he’s making a wise decision.
For us, we also need to be wise enough to recognize that we’re not the expert at everything, either. When a car breaks down, we know to visit a mechanic. When we’re sick, we visit a doctor. When we have a problem with our computer, we call a technology person. Are we as quick to consult our Bibles when we have a spiritual question, or do we act like we already know?
If I can ever be of help as you wrestle with a spiritual issue or question, please call, text, or come by and we can consult God’s Word together. Don’t feel like you have to be the expert at everything!
