But why do we do it together with other churches? Why couldn’t we do it on our own? We certainly could do it on our own, but doing it together with other churches highlights the fact that God has been good to ALL of us in Fisher County, not just Cross Roads. It helps us put our attention on the things that unite us in Christ, not the small details that might make our churches different.
I love what Sammy Turner (representing Rotan’s Foursquare Church) said at a previous community Thanksgiving: “We’re all gonna be worshiping God together in heaven one day, so we might as well get used to it now!” That really embodies the spirit of why we do community events with multiple churches. It’s not a competition between the churches, it is a cooperation. When another church sees growth, our first reaction should be to celebrate, not be skeptical and wish it was our church seeing growth instead. We’re all the same family!
There are lots of other good reasons for doing this, but I’ll only mention one more: the way it reflects Christ to the lost in our community. When those who don’t know Christ see His people come together in unity, it breaks down barriers and shines a brighter light for those who are in the darkness. Lights focused together are more brilliant than isolated lights.
I’ll see you all tonight at 6:00 at the Rotan Church of Christ, right?
