It seems crazy now, but I really was experiencing those symptoms. It made me feel better when I realized that I was not alone in feeling this way. It has been called nomophobia or the fear of being disconnected from technology especially cell phones. We all get feelings of anxiety when we have been disconnected, whether it's a missing cell phone or a fight with a loved one. Anything can cause those feelings of disconnect. We become tireless and restless trying to reconnect. We don't get satisfaction until we get the peace that comes from reconnection. I spent hours working trying to restore the internet back to the church. I almost jumped up and down for joy when it was fixed and called people in celebration.
Do we treat God in the same way? The pressures of world are great and constantly distract from our relationship with God. It is easy to get disconnected from God; jobs, kids' sports, and pressures from family are just some to name a few. Do we have a fear of getting disconnected from God? Do we feel anxiety when you have not prayed or read the bible in a while? We should, but I doubt we do. When the pressures of this world start to cause problems, we need to turn to God. Matthew 11:28-30, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” It's time to find peace and it starts with getting reconnected to God.
